LiZZOM is My tribute to her.  

A week after I brushed aside my dear friend’s constant period complaints at our dinner table, she revealed she had Stage 3 uterine cancer. Months later, she was gone. What stayed with me wasn't just the grief of losing her, but the guilt of having silenced her when she needed to be heard. That guilt soon turned into questions that would change the course of my life.

My research uncovered concerns about chemicals, plastics and materials used in conventional sanitary pads.Two years, countless trials and seven carefully selected layers later, LiZZOM was born.  

With time, I started getting complimented by women for the comfort their daughters experienced, for the ease they themself experienced with LiZZOM. Women shared stories of reduced itching, rashes, irritation and discomfort after switching to our pads.

Their relief was more meaningful than any sale. I couldn't bring my friend back. But perhaps I could make life a little better for other women. 

We made the pad we couldn't buy.

I just wish I'd listened sooner. LiZZOM started in Dubai with a simple complaint: every pad on the shelf was a plastic product with a floral print, and nobody would tell us what was in it.

So we built one from plants. A bamboo-fibre top sheet that breathes at 45°C. A plant-fibre core that holds 26.9 times its weight. A corn-starch backing instead of polyethylene. No chlorine, no fragrance, no dioxins. Every ingredient printed on the box, because "sanitary pads" should not mean "none of your business".

I am running this company from last 6 years with my lean team. We are women, we live here, and we use what we sell.

What we stand for

  • Say what is in it. Five ingredients, all listed. Certificates from people who do not work for us: OEKO-TEX, OK Compost, FSC, BPI, ECOCERT. See the certificates.
  • Build for this climate. Breathability is not a luxury feature in the Gulf. It is the difference between a normal day and a rash.
  • Leave less behind. 85 percent biodegradable by weight. A conventional pad is about 90 percent plastic.
  • Pass it on. Every order donates a pad to a girl who needs one, through schools and community partners in the UAE.
